Ensata or Japanese Iris are called the Queen of all Iris, and are the most spectacular. The flowers are huge (up to 8" across), orchid-like, heavily veined with crepe-like texture. They have a wide range of colors and unusual markings, blooming beautifully during June and July. They are tall, stately with lush green foliage and are excellent in the border garden. They enjoy sun and a moist, well drained acidic soil.
Sibirica or Siberian Iris are one of the most easily grown Iris. They originated from Northern Asia. Siberian Iris' do well under all types of weather conditions. Best grown in a moist soil but will tolerate dryer conditions. They begin blooming after the bearded Iris but before the Japanese Iris. Flowers are held on strong stems above the attractive, narrow lance like leaves. Originally, only the deep violet blue variety was available, but now many colors are that have the same fine naturalizing habits of the original.
